Wisdom that would take countless pages to begin to explain can be swiftly and deftly transmitted through a story. The domain of Sufism has long known this, developing a rich history of storytelling as a way to teach and guide.

Drawing on the stories conveyed by the great Sufi mystic Rumi, as well as the rich storytelling traditions of Central Asian Sufism, we will reflect on how stories become containers for meaning, lenses for perception, and multidimensional symbols for the education of the soul. One of the keys to comprehending Sufi stories is to be aware of the context of meaning, the spiritual universe that was assumed by the storyteller. And yet each story adds something new to that context, expanding our awareness and understanding of the soul's journey and the spiritual nature of reality.

"So at some point in my life I am likely to ask the key question which unlocks the gate to the spiritual life:  'Is this all there is to life?'  That question can eventually lead me to ...the deep desire to know myself."

A series of evenings are offered on the tangible process of understanding our true purpose as Hu_manus - God Conscious human beings.  Anyone interested in the practical work of the awakening to our responsibility as a conscious human being is welcome.

"Our problem is basically this: All the time our attention is taken, we are drawn; we care about various things that for that reason become god for us. We must know that we have all these gods that we worship. And we only deceive ourselves if we think that we do not have this idolatry present in us. As soon as we Work, we glimpse the force of identification, of idolatry. We see the force with which we are drawn to every kind of false god. The power to see that we worship false gods is in us all. But this does not mean that their power over us ceases. Only for a short and all-important time can the power of these negative forces cease. This is the basic reason for group work. If we come together to work, we have some chance to feel more the action of what is the real divinity in us, the substance of Work and feel less the power of all these other forces."
- Pierre Elliot
