Imagine What Could Be Accomplished

One question stands out: “This Work seems so dismal,” a student says. “Isn’t there any room for humor and play?”

Mr. Bennett sits for a long time, appearing to look deep within. Then he raises his eyes to the questioner and smiles.

“How could God have made butterflies if we were to be without cheer?” he answers.

“Why should we work so hard?” another student asks.

Mr. Bennett looks down into his hands as he folds them. A long silence passes as he thinks about his answer. When he finally looks up he says, “So we can bear more.”

“Why can’t Man accomplish what he knows how to do?”

“Man is capable of many great achievements. He has physical resources and knowledge. It is his being asleep about his true nature that gets in the way. Man does not yet understand enough about himself. Imagine what could be accomplished if he didn’t demand personal recognition and power over others.”
